The 2R2M mortar system combination with the VAB vehicle has been qualified by the French defense ministry, Thales says.
Previously, TDA has already been involved as prime contractor and system integrator to integrate the mortar system on other nations' VAB vehicles as well as on other vehicle types, including the ubiquitous M113 tracked and Piranha wheeled armored personnel carrier.
Completed by a command and control system - firing management communications, target acquisition and intercom - the system now ordered by Oman will provide the customer with a close combat capability with a range of beyond 12.5 km (approx. 7 naut. mi.).
TDA's rifled technology for 120-mm. mortars has also been selected by the U.S. Marine Corps, says Thales.


Computerized TDA 120-mm. mobile mortar system integrated in a VAB armored wheeled vehicle. This configuration, qualified by the French military, has now been sold to Oman. The mortar ordnance can be lowered into the main cabin when not in use and the overhead hatches closed, allowing the crew to transit high-threat areas while below armor.
